Born in Natal, South Africa, Ty became enamoured with the natural world from an early age. His enthusiasm for exploration, attention to detail and education in the sciences, ultimately led to a pursuit of photography where he is able to document the intricacies of the world that surrounds us.

Although Ty undertakes all forms of landscape photography, it is his aerial work that fuels his passion for the medium. Ty chooses to shoot from the open door of a plane or helicopter, exploring vast areas of Australia’s outback from altitude where he is able to form a deeper connection with the landscape and the details and relationships that it bears. “I believe that the natural beauty that we experience on a daily basis, is all about the collective details — the colours, the textures, the formations of time, tide and everything in between.”
Ty is a highly rewarded artist. His award highlights include Asia Pacific Photography Awards - Runner Up Landscape, Third Place Animals & Nature 2021. NZIPP IRIS Awards- 1x Gold, 1x Silver Distinction, 5x Silver 2020 and during 2019 Ty was awarded Px3-Prix de la Photographie, Paris, Winner Fine Art Photographer of the Year, Budapest International Foto Awards, Winner Nature Photographer of the Year, Australasian Emerging Photographer of the Year Awards, Runner Up Emerging Photographer of the Year, Head On Photo Festival, Finalist.
