Description

Photographic Edition print by Tony Potts

I was on assignment for Vogue, shooting at the W Hotel on Koh Samui, when the afternoon light did something extraordinary to the infinity pool. The water became a mirror so perfect it was almost impossible to tell where the pool ended and the sky began. I asked my model to walk to the edge and simply stand there, and then I got low as low as I could, and waited for the sun to drop into position. The geometry of it is what holds me: the bold W and its reflection, the silhouetted figure, the sun and its double, all suspended in gold. This is an image that needs space and scale to breathe. On a large wall, in a room with warm tones, it will own the room.
