Venice Beach was developed as a Los Angeles beach resort that paid homage to its Italian namesake with canals, piazzas, pedestrian bridges, a lagoon, and a colonnaded business district.

"I lived in the Hollywood Hills, but would often travel to Venice to take photos, and I couldn’t go there without spending some time at the skate bowl around sunset. The falling sun would throw shadows across the bowl and backlight the skaters as they would fly around the bowl, launching themselves into the sky. I loved the shadows and light. It always made for beautiful black and white photos." — Adam Bovino
