Description

Photographic Edition print by Tony Potts

There are places in this world that stop you completely. Koh Yao Noi is one of them. Tucked between Phuket and Krabi in the Andaman Sea, this is the Thailand that exists before the crowds arrive. Limestone karsts rising sheer from the water, draped in jungle right to the cliff edge, tiny secret beaches appearing at their feet like afterthoughts. The longtail boats belong here absolutely, their carved prows and coloured ribbons as much a part of the landscape as the rock and the water. I framed this shot from the shade of the tree line and waited for the third boat to enter the bay. When it did, the picture made itself.
