The artwork represents the turtle's laying eggs on the coastal sands. Each turtle lays up to 260 eggs each time they lay and not all hatch and make it to the water's edge to begin their life journey through the ocean.

As saltwater people we would only collect a small number of eggs as a healthy food resource for our people.
