Photographic Edition print by Tricia Brennan

In Palm Springs, a door is rarely just an entrance; it’s a graphic signature. I think of these as gems of the desert—bold, high-chroma statements drawn from mid-century colours that radiate against the stark architecture.

This photograph is one in a series that emerged from scouting the city’s most daring gems—from Emerald and Coral to the brilliance of Turquoise. These doors feel like they belong on a carefully composed set, and the residents I met were as charming and sophisticated as the houses themselves.

For me, these doors capture the playful, optimistic spirit of the '50s and '60s, where a bold choice of colour defines the mood of a space.
