About this artwork
The forms and go-to shapes that trot along beside me in the studio appear without effort or intent seem to be these comforting beacon-shaped lighthouses, or something imitating that. I often block them out after the initial brainstorm, but this one was allowed to stay as the painting's story quickly became clear at the end. Standing back I thought, how cool, home keeps providing the most amazing source of inspiration. It comes out naturally as the memory and experience of growing up with these views seem to control the oil sticks and brushes, rather than me. I used to think it was bad not knowing what the end result of the painting would be like, I don't think that anymore.
