Chantelle Stewart
Sydney-based artist Chantelle Stewart lives and works on the Northern Beaches, where her practice is shaped by a deep connection to the Australian landscape and an exploration of joy and movement.
Much of Chantelle’s work is a tribute to growing up in suburbia - running under sprinklers, riding bikes, swimming, playing backyard cricket and helping her mum hang washing on the Hills Hoist. Raised in a red brick house in a quiet cul-de-sac with her older brother and a cattle dog named Jessie, she remembers a childhood spent largely outside, where joy was part of the everyday.
Chantelle continues to be drawn back to those memories and the sense of ease they hold. Through her art she reconnects with that feeling - to move, experiment and play. Now raising her own children in another quiet cul-de-sac, there is a connection between the childhood she remembers and the life she has created today.
