Helen’s mother passed away when she was very young and spent most of her childhood in Kintore, a small Aboriginal community with a population of about 400 people, located 550 km west of Alice Springs, near the Northern Territory/Western Australia border, where her father and sister still live.
Along with her husband Geoffrey Gallagher, Helen now lives in Nyirripi, originally an outstation of Yuendumu but now a small community, 440 km west from Alice Springs in Northern Territory.
Helen has been painting at an art centre located in Yuendumu, since 2014, painting her father’s Ninkuwakal country. Her paintings remind her of her father and her country.
