Slim Aarons

Slim Aarons captured the casual elegance of high society through the mid-20th century through his life’s work as a freelance photographer and photojournalist. On returning home from WWII after serving with the US army photography corps, he pivoted to photograph subject matter in a polar opposite direction, shooting portraits of stars for movie studios and aristocracy for magazines. Long before the arrival of Instagram, he with his camera lens had an insider’s view of the elite in their playgrounds. This curation of his legacy is a glimpse into a lost era of style, grace and the good life.

“What the hell did we fight in the war for if it wasn’t to make the world a better place and even occasionally enjoy. I was honourably discharged with a Purple Heart and I’d had a bellyful of the horrors of war. From now on, I’m going to walk on the sunny side of the street.” - Slim Aarons
