FINEPRINT co is pleased to announce a new series of eight limited edition prints in partnership with Ken Done and The Store by Fairfax.

Best known for his loud, playful designs depicting Australian landmarks and sold under the Done Design brand, Ken Done is undoubtedly one of the nation’s most adored artists.

Established in 1980 with his wife, fashion designer Judy Done, the pair’s design company, Done Art and Design, began life as a small scale printer of Australiana themed T-shirts and quickly evolved into a much larger operation as popularity for their products surged. The pair worked together to create a full line of products, to include clothing, books and stationary, posters and homeware. As a result of the company’s widespread appeal and success, it was awarded the Fashion Industries of Australia’s Grand Award in 1993.

Ken Done Painting

Despite the immense fame brought about by the success of his design business, Done in fact started out as a painter, earning special dispensation at 14 years of age in order to leave his high school and attend what is now the National Art School in Darlinghurst, Sydney. And thus, in his mid-thirties, after forays into fashion, design and advertising, Done turned his attention back towards painting, his one true passion.

Done has enjoyed incredible success as a painter, and to date he has staged over 50 solo exhibitions in Australia and worldwide, in countries such as: France, Japan, The United Kingdom and The United States. Such is his notoriety, he has also been shown in a number of prestigious Australian awards, including the Archibald, Sulman, Wynne, Blake and Dobell Prizes. Additionally, he was honoured with the task of producing a series of works for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, and was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 1992 for services to Art, Design and Tourism.

Like fine wine, Done believes his painting craft continues to improve with age, recently stating “I’m a better painter at 79 than I was at 39” and his latest series of prints may be some of the best work he has ever produced.

This series of prints continues Done’s love for all things Australia, depicting a number of famous landmarks such as The Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Harbour and Uluru. Labelled as his most abstract artwork to date, this series of prints is a luminous display of the artist’s creativity and talent.

Done’s limited edition print series, in partnership with FINEPRINT co and The Store by Fairfax, represents a rare opportunity for anyone to acquire their very own artwork by an Australian icon.
